Mode7 · MMC Solo Dev · Last updated 21 September 2026
The short version: Mode7 collects nothing. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no crash reporting, and the app has no server to send anything to. Your games, saves and settings stay on your device. The only network use is the optional two-player mode, which talks directly to another device on your own Wi-Fi or hotspot.
This policy applies to Mode7, the retro console emulator published by MMC Solo Dev, free of charge, on every platform it ships on:
Mode7 does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal information. It contains no advertising SDK, no analytics or tracking SDK and no crash-reporting service, and it does not ask you to sign in. The developer receives no data from the app at all.
The app never asks for your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera. On Android it requests only two permissions:
INTERNET: used only for local two-player mode
(see Playing together below). The app does not contact any
internet server.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: read only, to show the host which
local address a second player should connect to.Everything below is saved in the app's private storage so it keeps working between sessions. It never leaves your device, and it is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Game files you add | Copied into the app's storage when you pick them with your device's file picker, so your library keeps working if the original file is moved. Mode7 includes no games; you supply your own. |
| Your library: game titles, console, last played time, cover pictures | To list and sort your games. Cover pictures are captured from the game's own screen while you play. |
| Battery saves and save states | So you can continue where you left off. |
| System (BIOS) files you supply | A few consoles will not start without them. Mode7 includes none; you provide your own. |
| Settings: controls layout, controller mapping, display and sound options | To restore your preferences next launch. |
Mode7 only opens files you choose yourself through the system file picker. It does not scan or read anything else on your device.
The optional two-player mode connects two devices on the same Wi-Fi or phone hotspot, directly to each other. To let the other player find the game, the hosting device announces on the local network, and only there, its device name, the title and console of the game being hosted, and a fingerprint of the game file used to check both players have the same copy. During play, the two devices exchange controller inputs.
This traffic stays on your local network. It never passes through a server of ours, and nothing about it is recorded or sent to us. Hosting stops when you leave the screen or end the game.
If you connect a USB or Bluetooth controller, Mode7 reads its button presses to play the game and shows the controller's name in Settings. This is handled on your device and is not stored or shared beyond your own button mapping.
When you download Mode7 from Google Play, Google may collect information as part of running its store, such as install and crash statistics provided by Android and Google Play services. That processing is Google's, under Google's privacy policy, and is not controlled by or shared with the developer beyond the aggregated statistics Google shows every developer.
Mode7 is not directed at children under 13. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either.
Since we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. Everything the app stores is on your device and yours to remove: delete games from the library, or uninstall the app to erase all of it.
If the app's data practices change, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date at the top will change with it.
